Douglas regularly provides Heritage Advice to private and public clients and prepares Heritage Impact Statements.

The process is very much a Burra Charter approach and involves firstly understanding a place, its history and significance and the client/architect vision.

Douglas provides advice in respect of the Planning and Design Code outcomes.

Concept Design

The process of design also stems from understanding a place, its history and significance and the client vision.

Whether designing a regional beach house, an addition in a State Heritage Area or a regional farm building, Douglas’ approach starts with these basic principles.

He loves a thick plan pen and creating options and ideas that consider the whole site and beyond; its context.

Delivery

He collaborates with like-minded CAD resources to communicate the design response at the Planning and Building phases.

Delivery involves obtaining the development approval through design development and documentation, select tendering and appraisal

During this phase Douglas will engage with Council Planners, Building Certifiers, Engineers and Energy Consultants. He may also require the services of a Planning Consultant.

Selecting a builder that fits well with the client vision is of importance.

Completion

Realising a vision during the construction or conservation phase can be the most exciting part.

Decisions and selections occur during this phase.
